Ventvisors: In-Channel or Outside Application?
Each week we are asked whether or not we prefer the in-channel or the outside application version of ventvisors, also referred to as rainguards. Therefore, we decided to take a moment to give a brief overview of each application, how they install, selection based on certain characteristics, as well as our personal preference. We also would like to give you, our customers, the opportunity to tell us and others your preference.
In-Channel ventvisors have a lip which tucks inside the window channel. On the lip there is a 3m adhesive tape which adheres to the felt track the window slides into. Outside application ventvisors attach to the vehicle’s paint with 3m adhesive tape already fastened on the lip. For some vehicles the outside applications may also tuck under the mirror.
Both in-channel and outside application ventvisors allow you to leave your window partially open thus reducing the buildup of heat within the vehicle when parked. They also allow you to let fresh air into the vehicle when on the road while at the same time keeping the rain or road spray out. In-channel applications give your vehicle a custom look, whereas if you prefer the add-on look you should choose the outside application. For ease of installation the outside application wins hands down.
The main drawback to the in-channel application is that over time it is possible for the top of the window to become discolored or scratched from rubbing against the ventvisor. The main drawback to the outside application is removing them if you ever need to. It can be done, but you will need patience to remove the 3m residue.
So, you see that there are advantages and disadvantages to each, but did you know that some vehicles may only have one type available, and in rare cases, you may just not have an application available. Why is this? Some vehicles have a window frame that will not hold an inside application in place. Other times there may not be a window frame at all and therefore, there isn’t an application available.
