Drab Food Container To Decorative Pencil Holder

Recently I remodeled a cardboard food container into a pencil holder - an easy and fun project for all ages and spaces. I noticed that my night stand was constantly cluttered with pens/pencils, scraps of paper, etc and I wanted to organize that in a way that would fit the color scheme and theme of our bedroom. Most kids’ rooms could use some clutter control - this is a great way to manage clutter of all kinds, not just writing materials.

I reused an empty food container (it was a container of bread crumbs that I got from Walmart, the perfect shape for a pencil holder) by covering it with scrapbooking paper that matched our bedroom color scheme. I used PVA, a bookbinding glue, to adhere the paper to the cardboard, but I assume regular glue or even double sided tape would do the job just as well.

This is a great little organization idea, to cover cardboard containers like cereal boxes and other food containers with decorative paper. This simple project has really cleaned up my nightstand and has added more color to our space.

If your kids’ rooms need help, involve them in the process by letting them choose the paper and cover the cardboard containers themselves. When kids are involved in the organizational process, the clutter is much more likely to be managed for the long term.
